Foothills Grad Works on Astronomical
Student Project

Walter Rahmer

Foothills grad Walter Rahmer '20 was a key member of CatSat, the University of Arizona's first satellite built entirely by students. The CatSat team is interested in investigating how signals propagate through the ionosphere, one of the uppermost layers of Earth's atmosphere, depending on factors like space weather and the time of day. Walter's work tracks with his interests at CFHS, where he was known for his passion for Science Olympiad--particularly in astronomy. Keep shooting for the stars, Walter!  Learn more here.

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Twenty-five students from CFHS have been awarded National Recognition by the College Board, setting a new record for our high school. The students earned this recognition through their exceptional performance on the PSAT/NMSQT® and/or AP® Exams, along with maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

  • Junior Katherine McNulty was named the girls champion of the cross-country Rio Rico Rattler Cross Country Invitational.

  • The CFHS Boys Golf team placed 2nd in the Brophy Rodeo National Golf Invitational at Grayhawk.

  • Isabelle Babst, a seventh grader in Ms. Kelly Smith's science class at Esperero Canyon Middle School, has been named one of the Top 300 Junior Innovators in the 2024 Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge (JIC).

  • Fifty-nine CFHS students were recently inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS) in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement.

  • Three CFHS students have been selected to participate in the KEYS Research Internship: Matthew Boylan, Logan Curley, and Brandon Mokhtarian.

OPEN ENROLLMENT


Open enrollment is a state law that allows students to attend schools outside of their resident school if the receiving school has the capacity to accept them. CFSD residents who wish to attend a school other than their home area school must apply under the open enrollment program as well as non-resident families.
