During the 2025-2026 school year, Catalina Foothills School District implemented personal device expectations designed to reduce distractions, increase student engagement, and support positive social interaction during the school day. To evaluate the effectiveness of these expectations, the District surveyed students, parents, and staff across elementary, middle, and high school grade spans.

The survey results demonstrate strong support for the District's personal device expectations and provide evidence that the policy is achieving its intended purpose. Parents and staff overwhelmingly support the expectations, students demonstrate high levels of understanding and compliance, and teachers report measurable improvements in student focus, classroom engagement, and peer interaction.

The findings indicate that the policy serves different purposes at different grade levels. At the elementary level, it functions primarily as a preventative measure that establishes healthy habits before personal device use becomes widespread. At the middle school level, it is producing the strongest measurable gains in student focus and social interaction. At the high school level, the policy maintains a balance between student independence and instructional expectations while generating strong compliance and positive classroom outcomes.

The survey also identified opportunities for improvement, including clearer guidance regarding wearable technology, enhanced communication regarding emergency contact procedures, and continued efforts to ensure consistency in implementation.
