CFSD 2021-2022 School Year Opening

Dear CFSD Families,

We’re pleased to share our plan for opening schools for the 2021-2022 school year.  One of our key takeaways from last year is that the risk from COVID-19 is dependent upon a variety of conditions.  Because of that, our goal this year is to offer greater flexibility with our mitigation strategies. We are also committed to in-person teacher-led instruction for all of our students

Face coverings will be optional for the 2021-2022 school year, and each individual’s choice around mask-wearing will be respected.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidance indicates that the personal risk for vaccinated people is low. They are significantly less likely to be infected. However, not everyone in our school community is vaccinated, and we do not know who is and who isn’t vaccinated.  The CDC continues to recommend mask use for those who are not yet vaccinated. No doubt there will be both students and staff in our schools who do and do not wear masks.

CFSD schools will be fully in-person.  Remote learning will not be an option.

Our students need to be able to learn together in a classroom. They need constant, direct in-person contact with teachers, learning materials, and each other. Of course, students get much more than academics at school. They also learn social and emotional skills, get healthy meals and exercise, and have access to special services. Despite our best efforts, the ongoing demands of remote learning are not sustainable.

Click here for more details about the mitigation strategies in effect in CFSD for the 2021-2022 school year, including our 2021 summer programming, effective Monday, June 28. Additional mitigation strategies may be implemented in the event that COVID-19 cases increase in our community and in our schools.

We appreciate the strong partnership that we enjoy with you. Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Mary Kamerzell, Superintendent
