Looking for after-school activities? Over one-half of Catalina Foothills School District middle school students participate in after-school enrichment activities and athletics offered through Community Schools. Students can choose to join a school team, improve athletic skills, make new friends while learning something new or explore the outdoors. No matter what the interest, Community Schools offers fun and well-supervised after-school activities at Esperero Canyon Middle School.

Due to AIA rules we can not utilize our HS coaches for Friday Night Nets and currently do not have a boys coach.

Foothills Phil Do you play an instrument? Want an excellent experience playing a variety of music from movie themes to popular classics? Come and join the Foothills Phil, Community School’s Intergenerational orchestra! Activity Bus Schedule


Chess $40 Tuesdays at CFHS House 3-509, 6-7:30pm
Open to all ability levels. Students meet weekly to build strategy and play games. There will be opportunity for tournament play. Mr. Larsen is the coach. REGISTER NOW!


Study Hall Monday- Thursday, Library
Work on homework assignments or independent reading and get extra help if needed. After homework is finished, some time will be spent on an “active” activity. FEE: 1day-$33, 2 days-$53, 3 days-$73, 4 days-$93 REGISTER NOW!


Fitness Fun Tuesday and/or Thursday $40 per day
Explore ways to get and stay fit! We will walk in Sabino Canyon, practice yoga, step aerobics and explore other forms of exercise, all while having fun. Once a week we will make a healthy snack. Ms. Matayas $5 Material fee REGISTER NOW!

ATTENTION: Attendance is taken for all Extended Day Activities & absences must be phoned in by parents to the school office by 2:00 p.m. the day of the class.
REFUNDS/CHANGES: When dropping out of activities after the first class, you will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given after the 2nd day of class.
Note: Students must be picked up on time. A $1 per minute supervision fee will be charged for those who remain on campus after 4:30.

All future Extended Day Activity opportunities will be available on the Esperero and Community Schools websites. Brochures will not be mailed.

Tuition assistance is available to families that may need it. Please contact Mary Johnson to obtain a subsidy form.

ECMS Athletic Packet

Boys' Interscholastic Baseball $115 Monday through Thursday
Come out and play ball! 7th and 8th grade boys will practice catching, throwing, and batting skills. Teamwork and participation will be emphasized. Competition will take place against other schools in the Northwest League. Coach: Mr. Osollo REGISTER NOW!


Girls' Interscholastic Volleyball for Grades 7-8 $135 (includes tournament fee) Monday through Thursday
Join the ECMS Girls’ Volleyball team and show your Eagle Spirit. Emphasis will be on sportsmanship, team and individual skills, strategies, and participation. 7th and 8th grade students will compete against other schools in the Northwest League. Interscholastic Coed Track and Field $127 (includes $12 invitational fee and visor) Monday through Thursday
Do you enjoy running, field events and sprinting? All 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are invited to join the Esperero Canyon Track team. Students will learn and practice the different events in track and field, ranging from long distance running to high jump. Students will compete against other schools in the Northwest League.

Early Release Fridays
Space is limited, please register early.

Friday Zone $85 Early Release Fridays 12:30-4:30 PM
Sports, games, field trips - something for everyone on Early Release Fridays! Please bring a snack each week. Additional field trip fee may be required. Students must be picked up by 4:30pm. No activity bus provided. Instructor: Mr. Matayas and Mr. Osollo Material fee of $5 payable to Ms. Matayas at first class. REGISTER NOW!

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Club $10 per Friday, March 19, April 16, May 14 12:30-2:00PM

Once a month experts in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics will share their knowledge with ECMS students. Plan to spend an Early Release Day each month expanding your understanding and interest in the wonderful world around you! This new and exciting club is a partnership between Community Schools and the ECMS FFO.
Students enrolled in FRIDAY ZONE pay no additional fee for STEM club.

What is Venom and What Does it Really Do? A View From The Inside-Out What's The Weather?
Learn why rattlesnakes, scorpions, black widows and brown recluse spiders have venom, what it does, and what happens when people get bitten or stung. Dr. Leslie Boyer from the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center, University of Arizona will present this valuable information. Experts from the University of Arizona College of Optical Sciences will provide a hands-on experience so you can learn how lasers work. There will even be an opportunity to take apart a DVD player. Bill Moore, generous donor of Esperero’s weather station, will share his weather enthusiasm and expertise with you. Mr. Moore owns and operates a digital weather station from his home which has helped reduce the use of water and better manage the turf health of the Ventana Canyon Country Club Golf Course
