Looking for after-school activities? Over one-half of Catalina Foothills School District middle school students participate in after-school enrichment activities and athletics offered through Community Schools. Students can choose to join a school team, improve athletic skills, make new friends while learning something new or explore the outdoors. No matter what the interest, Community Schools offers fun and well-supervised after-school activities at Esperero Canyon Middle School.

ORDER YOUR YEARBOOK NOW!

We print a limited number of yearbooks. Orders are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. WE CANNOT GUARANTEE that there will be yearbooks available for students to purchase at the end of the year. Don’t wait until the last minute, only to find that we don’t have an extra copy for you. Reserve your copy NOW! $35 for pre-orders, after October 10 through December 17, $39. Forms available at Esperero.

FIRST Lego League
Registration for FIRST Lego League opens Friday, August 20 at 8:00 a.m.   Register on-line or in person at 2101 E. River Rd.  For in-person registration please download FLL registration form. No FIRST Lego League registrations will be accepted prior to 8:00 a.m. on August 20. Mail-in registrations will not be accepted. Do ot drop your form off at your school. Sunrise Drive School, Fridays, August 27 and September 3, 3:30-6:00
Fee for the 14-week FLL season, for students selected for teams, will be $215, payable by the first day of team meetings.


Future Problem Solvers Club is a year-long, national program that teaches students how to use a creative problem solving process to solve scientific and social problems set in the futuristic society. The FPS Program concentrates on developing students' creative thinking skills so they will be better able to meet the challenges of the future. Students will also have the opportunity to compete with other FPS clubs from around the state! FPS Club meets every Monday afternoon and is open to 7th and 8th grade ECMS students who meet the participation qualifications. Classes will begin after an informational meeting. Foothills Phil Do you play an instrument? Want an excellent experience playing a variety of music from movie themes to popular classics? Come and join the Foothills Phil, Community School’s Intergenerational orchestra! Activity Bus Schedule


Chess $40 Tuesdays at CFHS, 6-7:30pm
Open to all ability levels. Students meet weekly to build strategy and play games. There will be opportunity for tournament play. Mr. Larsen is the coach. REGISTER NOW!


Study Hall Monday- Thursday, Library
Work on homework assignments or independent reading and get extra help if needed. After homework is finished, some time will be spent on an “active” activity. FEE: 1day-$33, 2 days-$53, 3 days-$73, 4 days-$93 REGISTER NOW!


Extended Study Hall Mon, Tues, Wed or Thursday $28 per day per quarter

Yearbook $80 per quarter Tues & Thurs
Students will design and produce a high quality yearbook for ECMS. Student workers will take photos, write copy, and develop page layouts consistent with the chosen theme. Six students from each grade level will be accepted, with returning yearbook staff given first preference. All prospective yearbook staffers should be creative, able to work independently and commit to staying the entire year. You will be asked to register each quarter. REGISTER NOW!


Painting $40 Mondays
Students will learn basic painting tips using acrylic paints. Each week students will have a project and use the paints and brushes that will be provided for them. A $10 material fee is payable to instructor, Ms. Tharp, at the first class. REGISTER NOW!


Knitting for Charity $40 Tuesdays
Be a hero and join Ms. Petersen in her knit-a-square project to help orphans in Africa. It’s easy and a fun way to help keep children warm who have been abandoned or are orphans in South Africa. Take turns bringing in your favorite music to listen to while you knit. A $10 material fee is payable to instructor, Ms. Petersen, at the first class. REGISTER NOW!


Batto-Do $80 Tuesdays at CFHS 4:30-6:00pm
Batto-Do translates as “The way of the drawn sword”. It is a non-contact form of martial arts that unites the three areas of sword study. Class will focus on the basic stances, cuts and movements, as well as the sword, and history relating to the Japanese sword. This class is open to middle and high school students and will be held at Catalina Foothills High School. August 24 - December 17. New students will need to purchase a $20 wooden sword from the instructor at the first class. Returning students will need to purchase a $48 padded sword from the instructor at the first class. ATTENTION: Attendance is taken for all Extended Day Activities & absences must be phoned in by parents to the school office by 2:00 p.m. the day of the class.
REFUNDS/CHANGES: When dropping out of activities after the first class, you will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given after the 2nd day of class.
Note: Students must be picked up on time. A $1 per minute supervision fee will be charged for those who remain on campus after 4:30.

Girls' Intramural Volleyball $77 Tuesday & Thursday
Girls in the 6th grade are invited to join the intramural volleyball team. Emphasis will be on team and individual skills, strategies, participation and sportsmanship. The team will play against Orange Grove Middle School. REGISTER NOW!


Girls' Interscholastic Softball for Grades 7-8 $115 Monday through Thursday
All 7th & 8th grade girls are invited to join the Esperero Canyon Eagles Softball Team. Practice basic skills such as throwing, catching, fielding and batting. Students will compete against other schools in the Northwest League. REGISTER NOW!


Interscholastic Coed Tennis $115 Monday through Thursday
Calling all 7th and 8th grade tennis players to join the Esperero Canyon Eagles. The coach will teach skills, strategies, and drills to the team. Competition will take place against other schools in the Northwest League. Students are required to provide their own racquets. REGISTER NOW!


Interscholastic Coed Cross Country $115 Monday through Thursday
Join the Esperero Canyon cross country team. Open to boys and girls in grades 6, 7, & 8, our team will compete for the Eagles against other schools in the Northwest League. A great way to get in shape for basketball and soccer! REGISTER NOW!


Intramural Coed Flag Football $77 Tuesday & Thursday
Open to boys & girls in grades 6, 7, & 8. Students will learn sportsmanship, team unity and work on skill improvement through game play and modified games. Some games will be played against Orange Grove Middle School . REGISTER NOW!

Don’t miss another great opportunity to develop your basketball skills at Catalina Foothills High School this fall. CFHS basketball coaches, Pete Fajardo and Michael Steward will impart their coaching expertise using drills emphasizing techniques for ball handling, dribbling, shooting, lay-ups, passing, catching and footwork. Come on out on Friday nights for this very popular and fun camp!

Matsuno Ryu Goshinjitsu $40 1:00-2:30pm (no class 9/10)
A balanced martial art that teaches elements of Karate, Jujitsu and Judo, emphasizing the traditional values of respect and perfection of character. Classes will be held at Orange Grove Middle School. REGISTER NOW!
