CFSD Named a Top-Performing District!

As designated by the Arizona Department of Education, the Catalina Foothills School District is an “A” rated, top performing school district for the fourth straight year. The district recognizes that this accomplishment reflects the efforts of many: the achievement of our students, the hard work and commitment of teachers and staff, focused and effective leadership, and strong family and community support.

Our priority is to help every student excel in the classroom.

Students in our district are required to take the Stanford 10 and AIMS exams, which measure academic performance in specific areas. The link below provides a summary of Arizona's Assessment Program and test results for CFSD.

Stanford 10

Students in grades 2 and 9 took the Stanford 10, a national norm-referenced test created by Pearson that measures achievement in language arts and mathematics. Spring 2014 was the last administration of the Stanford 10. The Arizona Department of Education has not released information about a replacement for the Stanford 10.

Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS)

Students in grades 3-8 took the AIMS, which is a combination of AIMS criterion-referenced assessment items based on the Arizona Academic Standards and items from the Stanford 10. The test measures reading and mathematics in grades 3-8, writing in grades 5, 6, and 7, and science in grades 4 and 8.

Students in grade 10 took the high school AIMS test, which is a criterion-referenced test with items based on the Arizona Academic Standards. It measures the three content areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. Beginning with the class of 2006, 10th grade students must pass the AIMS in order to graduate. Students continue to test twice annually in grades
11-12 until they have met or exceeded the standard in each area tested.

AIMS Science is administered at the high school level when students take their life science course. In CFSD, AIMS Science is administered to all grade 9 students when they are enrolled in Biology. AIMS Science is not included in the graduation requirements.

New Statewide Achievement Test

In November 2014, the Arizona State Board of Education adopted a new statewide achievement test, AzMERIT (Arizona’s Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching) for Arizona students. Arizona public school students in Grades 3 through high school will take AzMERIT in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students in Grades 4, 8, and high school will still take the AIMS Science test.

Students in Grades 3 through 8 will take AzMERIT in English Language Arts and Mathematics at their grade level. Students taking high school level English Language Arts and Mathematics will take AzMERIT End-of-Course assessments that will test their proficiency in these subjects near the end of the course.

High school students graduating after December 31, 2016 will no longer be required to pass the AIMS test to graduate from high school. Students will not be required to pass the End-of-Course tests for graduation.
