CFSD Named a Top-Performing District!
The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) designated the Catalina Foothills School District (CFSD) as a top performing school district for the fourth straight year in 2014. Prior to that, the district was ranked as an "Excelling" district for eight consecutive years. The district recognizes that this accomplishment reflects the efforts of many: the achievement of our students, the hard work and commitment of teachers and staff, focused and effective leadership, and strong family and community support.
Our priority is to help every student excel in the classroom.
CFSD students have consistently performed well by a variety of academic measures. AIMS (prior state achievement test), Stanford 10, ACT, and SAT scores have consistently been well above state and national averages. The ADE ranked CFSD as #1 for the AP Excellence Index (percent of all 9th-12th grade students who earned a 3 or higher on any AP exam) based on data from the College Board, 2010. Catalina Foothills High School (CFHS) was identified as Arizona’s #1 non-selective high school by U.S. News and World Report. A blend of high expectations and rigorous curriculum focused on the development of deep learning proficiencies encourages excellence from our students.
AzMERIT: New Statewide Achievement Test
In November 2014, the Arizona State Board of Education adopted a new statewide achievement test, AzMERIT (Arizona’s Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching) for Arizona students. Arizona public school students in Grades 3 through high school will take AzMERIT in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students in Grades 4, 8, and high school will still take the AIMS Science test.
Students in Grades 3 through 8 will take AzMERIT in English Language Arts and Mathematics at their grade level. Students taking high school level English Language Arts and Mathematics will take AzMERIT End-of-Course assessments that will test their proficiency in these subjects near the end of the course.
AzMERIT Testing Calendar for 2014-2015
High school students will no longer be required to pass the AIMS test to graduate from high school. Students will not be required to pass the AzMERIT End-of-Course tests for graduation.
